  • Delivery Mode of Courses
    Full-time
    The Geelong campus provides full-time study for a range of courses. This is generally conducted Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm. In most cases this is the best opportunity to gain a formal qualification and to position yourself well to gain employment. From time to time we also use other venues in Melbourne or Sydney to delivery face to face training.

    Flexible Delivery Off Campus (online)
    This includes Australia wide off campus and online study - available 24 x 7.
    This enables people with full-time employment to undertake studies to further enhance their career or to prepare themselves for a new career. Off campus study does require strong self motivation and self-discipline. However it is very achievable and provides a pathway to career development. The online component provides greater interactivity with the trainer and other students.

    Training materials are provided to participants together with 'online' learning materials and interaction facilities. Online communications and discussions enable you to participate without having to be at a particular place at a certain time.

    Traineeships
    Trainees are employed as a New Apprentice and work 4-5 days a week on a full time basis and include a formal study component. Part-time traineeships are also available. For more information on traineeships click here.

    Workshops
    Workshops are an opportunity to learn, practise and brainstorm. They are generally half or full day sessions and are often available for computer training and a range of other courses. They can be provided for specific industry training in a variety of locations around Australia and also in-house (with minimum numbers).


  • Do I need to have access to the Internet?
    Yes, you do need access to the Internet. It is possible to complete the course without it; however, access to the Internet provides facilities to enhance your learning experience and we rely on email communication with you.


  • Do I need computer skills to use the online learning?
    Some basic computer skills are necessary. You need to be able to turn the computer on, access the Internet with a browser, manage your files and use the keyboard and mouse. We can provide instructions on how to do this if necessary. You may want to consider doing a basic computing elearning course as preparation (these are low cost and easy to do). Technology units are included as part of some of our courses. If you do not have a computer, consider where you can gain access - friends, library, work, college, other.


  • Where can I access the Internet if I do not have it at home?
    You may use the computers at the college if in the area (prior arrangement is required). You may be able to access the Internet at your local library, at work or you may have a friend who is willing to let you borrow it.


  • When can I start and how long will the course take?
    You can start as soon as you are ready. Being flexible delivery, you can learn at your own pace. You will receive an individual Training Plan to adhere to. The nominal hours are listed with the list of units for each level of the course. The actual length of time will vary for each person, depending upon your prior knowledge, aptitude and ability to interpret and apply information. You will need to adopt a disciplined study program on a regular basis in order to complete the Units of Competence. This will assist you to get the best value from your course.


  • What about assessments?
    Each Unit of Competence contains self check exercises that need to be completed to test your knowledge and understanding of the subjects just studied. These will be open-book and should be sent to your trainer for feedback. Formal assessments will be conducted for each unit - this may be a test, an assignment, a project, an observation or other suitable assessment tool. Your Unit Checklist will outline clearly the assessment requirements.


  • Future employment opportunities
    Employers are looking for people with a high level of skills who can be productive soon after employment. They also require people who can work independently, use their own initiative if required and be able to work in a team situation. Macquarie graduates have continually achieved a very high level of success in finding employment within a relatively short time after completing a course. Many local businesses contact the college when a vacancy arises seeking a graduate who will fit their requirements. Many graduates from both the Business and Tourism courses have been extremely successful. Remember it does come down to you and the skills you can offer an employer.


  • Australian Qualification Framework
    The AQF is a unified system of twelve national qualifications in schools, vocational education and training (private providers and TAFE) and the higher education sector (mainly universities). The framework links together all of these qualifications and is a quality assured national system of educational recognition which promotes lifelong learning. Qualifications certify the knowledge and skills a person has achieved though study, training, work and life experiences. Qualification levels include: Certificate I, Certificate II, Certificate III, ertificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma.

A subsidised place is guaranteed to anyone who is eligible and you can access this entitlement more than once, as you move up the qualification scale. This is called the Victorian Training Guarantee and it became available for Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas from 1 July 2009.
